I redid the smoke on this design and I'm not sure if I prefer this one or the original. I'm leaning towards this one but I don't know so I turn to you guys to help.

Nope I prefer the first one, it has a nice spontaneous quality about it, a stylised smoke that works with the sketch. This one seems forced doesn't have the same flow to it.
You're right. This looks really cheesy upon closer inspection. I may try one more attempt at it but I may move on to worse things.
